Chief Douglas Briggs leads Somerset PD with over 30 years of law enforcement experience. He started is career in the U.S. Army Military Police and continued it in civilian life at Menomonie Police Department in Menomonie, WI.

At MPD he proceed through the ranks of Patrol Officer to Lieutenant. In 2002 he was hired as the Chief of Police in Somerset. He brings a wealth of knowledge, training, and experience. Chief Briggs has training and certifications in: Defense and Arrest Tactics, Firearms Instructor, Critical Incident Management, O.C. Instructor, Advanced Taser Instructor and has training in School Violence Reduction, Hmong Culture relations, Advanced Driver (EVOC), Supervision of Police Personnel, Drug Investigation, Interviews and Interrogations, Robbery Responses/Investigations, Police involved shootings/deadly force, Basic SWAT, etc.

He has been an adjunct instructor for Chippewa Valley Technical College since 1984 and is currently a certified instructor with the WI Training and Standards Board for law enforcement curriculum. Chief Briggs is also certified by PADI for underwater search and recovery, open water and ice environments.

He is currently working towards his Bachelor's Degree in Administration.
