Chief Douglas J. Briggs Welcome

Besides myself the department is staffed with one sergeant, three patrol officers, a complement of part-time officers and our K-9 officer, Xaro. One of our patrol officers is assigned as a full-time school liaison officer. Our liaison officer serves our school campus area, which is comprised of an elementary school, middle school, and high school, all of which were constructed recently. Our sergeant also handles our K-9, Xaro, who recently completed police dog training at the St. Paul Police Department, MN. Our officers aggressively work at making the Somerset Police Department a model for others to follow. All full time officers are instructors in crtical areas of law enforcement (i.e. EVOC, Firearms, Patrol Rifle, CPR/First Aid, Defense and Arrest Tactics, Less Lethal, Taser, etc.) Several are also instructors for local community colleges. In addition to instruction all of our officers have recieved training in REID interviewing, SFSTs, EC IR Operation, Drug Recognition and Identification, etc.

Every one of our officers is a dedicated professional committed to serving their community. I am proud to say that the majority of our residents know our officers by their first name and our officers actively seek opportunities to make positive contacts with our citizens. Our department is a small group of professionals who take to heart the responsibility of being a police officer. We are privileged in having the support of our community and we will continue to do our best to earn that support.

Douglas J. Briggs, Chief of Police Welcome to the Somerset Police Department website and thank you for your interest in us. I hope our site will satisfy your curiosity about out department and its procedures but if it does not please feel free to contact any of our staff or myself. You will find information about contacting us further into the site. If you are visiting us from afar please allow me to tell you about our community and our department. Somerset is a village of 1,874 citizens located in St. Croix County. We are minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area in one of the most dynamic regions of Wisconsin. Our village is abuzz with the sound of building as new homes are prepared for those who will be moving here from the Metro area, which itself is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. In the year 2001 our village issued hundreds of building permits and we are all looking forward to welcoming our new neighbors. Our department is dedicated to serving the needs of our citizens and to preparing for the changes that lie ahead.
